GSO Test

'Success for all, in all we do'

Year 1 Blog 23rd April 2021

It has been a fantastic first week back in Year 1. The children have settled back into school well and have been working hard all week.

In Maths, we have been measuring and comparing length and height. We have been using non-standard units of measurement. We measured objects around our classroom using different non-standard units like cubes, counters, lego and pasta and thought about ways to make sure we are accurately measuring.

In English, in line with our new Superheroes topic, we have been writing our own Superhero comic strips. We looked at the features of comic strips and practised using speech bubbles, thought bubbles and onomatopoeia. We created our own superheroes and gave them powers then wrote a comic strip about their adventures!

For our topic, we have been clarifying the word 'hero' and thinking about all of the different types of heroes, ranging from fictional Superheroes and Everyday heroes. We thought about the qualities and characteristics that different heroes have. For our topic covers we painted background skies inspired by Van Gogh's 'Starry Night' painting which will include a superhero twist!

Reminder:
