'Success for all, in all we do'

Year 1 Blog w/b 14th September

It has been another great week in Year 1. The children have loved reading our focus text 'Cloudland' about a little boy called Albert who is saved by the cloud children. They learned how to predict what might happen in the story. Working in groups, the children developed their drama skills to retell the story. We are attaching a letter formation worksheet and high frequency word worksheet should you wish to practice these at home.

In Maths, the children have been consolidating their knowledge of numbers to 20. The main focus this week has been representing numbers using objects. The children have been using ten frames and counters to support their learning. We have noticed that lots of the children need to continue to practice their number formation so it would be great if you could help them at home with this too. Please find an example worksheet at the bottom of the blog.

Next week, elections for the position of School Councillor, Eco-councillor and Reading Ambassador will take place. The responsibilities of these roles have been discussed with the children throughout the week and they have been asked to think about whether they would like to put themselves forward for any of these positions. Over the weekend, please discuss with your children if they want to 'apply' for the role. If they do, please discuss their reasons for wanting to apply and support them with making a poster or writing a very brief speech.
